The forum software appears to have chewed uponebir'soriginal thread and I have no idea why. All I could salvage from the original thread is this:... from a delegate from the women's wing of UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) - currently the ruling party of Malaysia. She called on the government to compel the carrier to change the uniform of the stewardesses which she felt was too revealing.{Full story here}Well it's a private company operating legally. Even if those factors aren't critical about 40,000 people turned out in Kuala Lumpur on Staurday to campaign for fair elections and were teargassed for their trouble - at the same...Perhaps,onebir, you could repost your originalentry below and we can carry on from there? (Apologies for putting you to the extra trouble, but I think it's an interesting topic and worth some discussion).

From what I can remember/find:

- here's the original story
- here's the Malaysian PM saying his party, which is the one the lady making the criticism above belongs to, "will not endorse a narrow interpretation of Islam"

Between that stance & Air Asia's positive PR for Malaysia's business environment, impact on tourism etc, it seems unlikely the criticism will have any impact.

On the other hand, the Air Asia uniform does have rather short skirts & using air hostesses to sell seats seems a bit tired. And there's probably some cost premium attached to hiring good-looking staff. So a true "lowest cost" model might not allow for this approach - unless perhaps the marketing (/esprit de corps?) benefits were perceived to outweigh this...

As a footnote, here's something on the electoral protest in KL on Saturday.
