$%*'`[MacHovis]%*'`@How does one pronounce the Swiss placename Weggis? Does the 'Wegg' part start with 'W' as in 'water' and rhyme with 'leg'? Or does the 'W' sound like a 'V' and the whole name pronounced like Vegas as in Las Vegas? Are there any good websites that deal with placename pronunciation in general? TIA MacH

An English speaking person's pronounciation of:

VAY-gis

would approximate how a Swiss person might say Weggis.
